The choice in everyday use
A prefab shower offers a defined product range and sizes; a custom shower can be shaped around a particular room and routine. Start with whether a standard configuration provides the entry, standing area and storage you need. Custom work can solve unusual geometry, but extra choice is only useful when it addresses a real requirement.
Does prefab mean there are no design decisions?
No. Base size, drain position, opening and accessory locations still need selection and site checks. Custom work expands the options but also requires more decisions about dimensions, details and finishes.
Choose with the same room in mind
Sketch both options using the same room measurements and the features you actually need. Keep entry, storage and bathing position consistent where possible; otherwise you may be comparing a basic version of one option with an upgraded version of the other. Bring the tradeoff you care about most to the visit and ask what site condition could rule an option out.
