A partial remodel targets the bathing area while retaining usable parts of the room; a full remodel coordinates more of the bathroom at once. Compare whether the retained layout still supports your routine. Expanding the scope makes sense when the shower change would otherwise leave poor circulation or unresolved finish transitions.
When is a partial remodel a sensible stopping point?
When the retained fixtures work and the new bathing area can join them cleanly. If floor, plumbing or layout changes spread beyond that boundary, compare the full scope before deciding that retaining more is automatically better.
Choose with the same room in mind
Sketch both options using the same room measurements and the features you actually need. Keep entry, storage and bathing position consistent where possible; otherwise you may be comparing a basic version of one option with an upgraded version of the other. Bring the tradeoff you care about most to the visit and ask what site condition could rule an option out.
